2014 Deck – Week 49

I normally try to get impacting photos for my Deck Project, but this one I wanted to include because of the message…

Our shorelines are collecting more and more garbage and it is getting more and more unsafe for our children.  In this season of giving, this season of Joy, let us think to the future, and with regard for our fellow man, with respect for our planet, do our little part in disposing of our garbage in a responsible way.

2012 Deck – Week 48

Santa Claus, a mythical figure whose fame has spanned centuries, but is he only a myth or is he real?

The story of Santa Claus can be found in Legends, Myths, History and Folklore, and the names vary through the years and across land boundaries, but one thing remains the same, the IDEA that there is a person, an entity who gives gifts unselfishly to children, usually on the eve of Christmas so that on Christmas Day they awaken to presents.

For me, this Idea, IS  Santa Claus, this is what we want to believe in and keep the tradition going.  Was there ever a man with a long white beard who went house to house giving gifts to children?  I’d say that it was likely.  Did he dress in a red suit and have eight (or nine) reindeer pulling his sleigh through the skies?  Probably not  🙂

As Christmas approaches, I wish you all the best for the Season of Christmas.

2011 Deck – Week 48

Because I am behind schedule posting my Deck images this year, it is co-incidental that the image for the 48th Week is actually appropriate for today, the day I am posting it…

Everyone has beliefs, even if you say you don’t believe in anything, that in itself is a belief.  I believe in Santa Claus!  Maybe not the person, but the idea, the idea of giving, of making children happy, even of the stories and the legends that surround this figure.

I like to be a child again every Christmas and believe in the magic of giving, in the magic of the gift that was the Christ-child.

To all my friends and family, to anyone who happens across this page, whether you believe in Jesus, in Allah, in the pantheon of Hindu gods, in the Buddha, in a Supreme Being or in no particular power, I wish you a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Season’s Greetings!

Merry Christmas!

The Deck – Week 51

This week’s photograph is not the best I’ve taken for the week, it is, however, somewhat representative of Christmas in Guyana.  The Masquerade bands come out during the Christmas Season and then at Mashramani, although I didn’t see the “Mother Sally” and the “Bull” at this gathering, these gentlemen were out in the hot midday sun, entertaining the public and raising some funds for their future endeavours.

Merry Christmas to all who stop by to read this, busy though most of us are  🙂

The Deck – Week 50

After three successive monochrome postings for the Deck project, I decided this week, that regardless of what the weather was like I wanted a coloured image, and I finally got something in keeping with the season, Demerara Mutual Insurance company lit up their building very nicely, and I took a few images at night to try and capture the spirit  🙂

Here’s the resulting image.  Demerara Mutual has it’s main office on Avenue of the Republic in Central Georgetown, to the right of the photo, you can even see a portion of City Hall.
